Horizon Services Goes Green!

Two Local Businesses Among First To Switch to Solar Panels for Power

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Horizon Goes Green(NOV. 15, 2008; WILMINGTON, DE) — These days, you hear a lot about “going green”. But for two Wilmington-area businesses, going green isn’t just a fad; they’re doing so in a big way and encouraging others to do the same.

Horizon Services, Inc. – the premier plumbing, heating and air conditioning services company in Delaware, Southeast Pennsylvania, and Maryland — and P.J. Fitzpatrick, Inc. — the Delaware Valley’s leading home remodeler — are leading the charge among small and mid-size businesses in the region by installing solar panels at each of their headquarters.

Solar panels offer homeowners and businesses many advantages. They’re quiet, clean, safe and good for the environment. They significantly reduce electricity consumption. And they cut down on the need for expensive foreign oil.

For Mark Aitken, president and co-owner of Horizon Services, the decision to move to solar energy was motivated by more than just dollars and cents.

“At Horizon Services, we believe that companies have an obligation to be good corporate citizens in the communities in which they work and live,” said Aitken. “Solar energy is the socially responsible thing for businesses to do, and we hope we’re setting an example for other businesses in the region to follow.”

Pride also played a part. “Horizon’s recognized as a leader and trend-setter in the plumbing, heating and air conditioning industry,” Aiten added. “We like to be on the cutting edge in everything we do, and you can’t get much more cutting-edge than solar.”

Both companies received grants from the federal government to install the new panels and companies in Delaware built them.

Pete Fitzpatrick, President and CEO of P.J. Fitzpatrick thinks it’s important that the solar panels are made in Delaware. “They’re made nearby in Pencader. We’re keeping local people working and we’re helping keep our own people working by cutting costs and staying competitive in the marketplace. It just makes good economic sense for businesses in this area to embrace this technology.”

Dave Geiger, co-owner of Horizon Services, says the installation couldn’t come at a better time. “This is the time to do solar. There are some great government grant programs and also the federal government adds a 30% tax incentive to go forward with solar energy. It’s a great time to do it.

“The decision to go with solar technology was easy for both of our companies,” added Aitken. “Both Horizon and P.J. Fitzpatrick offer home improvement products and services that allow our customers to enjoy greater energy efficiency and cost savings. Switching to solar is just another way to put into practice what we’re always preaching to our customers.”
